Margo Kidder Performs in Staged Reading of 'Well'

Actors Theatre of Montana presents Margot Kidder in a staged reading of "Well," by Lisa Kron, Wednesday, May 4, at the Dulcie Theatre in Livingston, and Thursday, May 5, at the Black Box Theatre on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman. Both performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by ATM co-founder Dee Dee Van Zyl, "Well" also features ATM's Cara Wilder and Susan Dickerson, with Marc Beaudin, Chris McIntyre and Paige Taylor rounding out the cast. A company of theater professionals, ATM's recent productions include "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "The Life and Times of Tulsa Lovechild." The staged reading is a fundraiser for ATM, and tickets are $15 tickets at the door.

"Well" is a scathingly funny and brutally honest play about mothers and daughters, wellness, illness and reconciling the past with the present. "Well" is not just Kron's homage to her own mother, an aging woman named Ann who may or may not be a hypochondriac; it is her tribute to everyone who thinks they have a firm understanding of their family's neuroses, then finds themselves struggling to find a new paradigm every time they argue with their parents. Kron explores her mother's experiences with social activism and illness, using physical illness as a metaphor for social "illnesses" such as racism. Ultimately, the play is about the mystery of human personalities, even and especially those of the people you think you know intimately.

Presented as a pre-Mother's Day event, ATM encourages all mothers and daughters, and everyone else, to attend this wry, funny and poignant staged reading. The Dulcie Theatre is located at 415 E. Lewis St., in Livingston, and the Black Box Theater is on the corner of 11th and Grant.
